Rhee Haun was born in Seoul, Korea. Resident of Wichita, Kansas. She studied music at the Seoul Art High School in Korea and music composition at Wichita State University. Earlier works have been registered with the US Library of Congress. About the Music: Dorajie (도라지) is the Korean name of the Bellflower. The root of the flower is used to make a side vegetable dish. Korean ladies like to pick the roots, so they can make Dorajie namul. It is a well known Korean folk song, and I composed for violin with piano accompaniment. Use of the major and the minor key gives the light and shade, but never too shaded. It remains fresh and pure as a young lady. Use of three beats, one of Korean’s common folk rhythms creates the dancing movements. |
