Roger Shen, 13, is a 7th grader at NBJH in Northbrook, IL. Roger loves classic music and began learning piano almost at turn of age 7. His current teacher is Sueanne Metz. From age 10 he started to compete. He has won numerous awards and prizes, among them (all in Junior Division) are the 1st Place of the 6th Annual Aloha International Piano Competition, 1st prize winner of the 2011 Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition, the 1st Regional Alternate of 2011 MTNA piano competition, the 1st place of 2010 Chicago Area Steinway Young Artist Competition, the Early Music Category winner of 2010 Walgreens National Concerto Competition, and the 2nd place of 2010 SAM piano competition. Roger has made frequent public appearances, including performances at Carnegie Hall twice, Chicago Cultural Center, Hawaii Convention Center in Honolulu, concerts at local library, 2011 Northbrook AutumnFest, Northfield Senior Center 2011 holiday party, and many university music halls for winners’ recitals. Besides music, Roger enjoys reading and watching Discovery and History channels. Swimming is his main sport. He swims one to two miles in four types of strokes almost daily at local YMCA. |
